Onwards and Upwards in 2013!

The beginning of a new year is a good time to look back on what has been achieved and what challenges lie ahead of us. For Diffraction Analysis, this particular moment also marks the two-year anniversary of a new research brand.

Two years ago we started on this adventure, confident that a research and consultancy business with sharp focus on NGA broadband and intimate customer relationship could strive. It’s been tough, but so far we’ve been proven right, and we have a lot of exciting plans for 2013.

In my prior life as an employee, I’ve always felt that blaming the downturn for misfortunes was the easy way out for a CEO. Now that I run a business, I constantly have to remind myself that complaining about the tough climate is not in any way productive; that seeing the opportunities it offers is the way to go. In 2013, we fully intend to live by that motto. That’s why our card says Onwards and Upwards!

The coming year will offer many opportunities for us to meet and collaborate with our service provider and vendor customers. We are very excited about some of the things we have planned, and wanted to share some of the landmark moments you can expect from us in the coming months:

  • In the next few days, we will release our Fiber Project Database to our customers. This has been a long time in the making, it’s a database of close to 200 fiber-to-the-x projects worldwide, each detailed with over 50 indicators on financials, technology choices, commercial models, etc. It is, as far as we know, the first such product to exist and will allow service providers and vendors to cross-analyze metrics across many different projects spanning the globe.
  • Before the end of January, we will inaugurate a new form of interaction with a first of what we hope to be monthly Fiber Hangouts. The idea is to use the (free) Google + hangout feature to propose a regular interactive show where we will discuss latest market trends, present our recent publications and speak with industry luminaries. The hangouts will be recorded so that those who don’t attend live can still benefit.
  • In February in London, the FTTH Council Europe annual conference (the largest FTTH event worldwide) will take place on Feb. 20-21st at the ExCel. Diffraction Analysis is an analyst partner of the conference and as such we are pleased to offer you a 25% discount code for attendance at the event. All you have to do is book through www.ftthconference.eu and use the code LOFTTH31. There Diffraction Analysis will be presenting the results of an exciting study on the relationships between real-estate and next-generation broadband and the perceived benefits of fibering up properties by building managers, developers and property owners.

That’s just for the first two months. Stay tuned for much more news and provoking thoughts from us in the coming weeks and months.

Oh, and before I forget, Diffraction Analysis has a little present for you to celebrate the new year. We all write up presentations that talk about fiber – one way or another – and we all scour the web for nice visuals. Well look no longer! I have recently shot a number of photos of optic fiber in various colors and formats and have decided to release these photos under a Creative Commons non-commercial licence. That means that while these photos cannot be used for commercial purposes (flyers, posters, commercial websites, etc.) they can be used for powerpoint presentations, blog articles and such with proper attribution. The archive of these fiber photos can be found here. Hope you enjoy them!

So all that’s left for me to do is wish you a wonderful 2013 and hope that we will meet again this year!
