Reading too much from the Google Fiber blog?

Us_dpThe Google Fiber blog released an interview of a Google Technical Manager talking about the deployment (in a heavily PR oriented way) a few days ago entitled: A Construction Update. It's frustratingly short and although it leaves me wondering about quite a few things, it could be interpreted to mean that:

  • Google Fiber is deploying point-to-point: "The benefit of this model is simple: every home that has Google Fiber service will have their very own fiber-optic cable that directly connects all the way back to the Internet backbone."
  • Google Fiber will be pre-connecting homes: "Once we’re done with that, we can move to the next step where we’ll be connecting fiber to homes."

Since both of these would be somewhat surprising (especially the second one), I'm wondering if I'm reading too much into this...
