On October 24th, I will be a keynote speaker at the Workshop on Municipal Fiber in Ghent, Belgium. This event, as the title suggests, will be focused on municipal fiber broadband and feature numerous speakers with experience in such initiatives and/or open access networks. The full agenda is to be found here and biography of speakers can be found here. The event will be fully held in English.
My speech is entitled "The Universal Connectivity Revolution". It will explore the paradigm shift introduced by municipal broadband and explain why local government involvement in broadband makes sense despite resistence from national governments and incumbents. I'm also looking forward to hearing, amongst other presentations:
- Crister Mattson (Acreo) presenting results on a quantitative economic analysis of the returns of municipal broadband in Sweden,
- Charles Watt (Eris@) laying down the argument for incumbent open access in fiber,
- Ad Ketelaars (City of Eindhoven) presenting the services offered over the fiber network in Eindhoven.
If you plan to attend, drop me a line and we can meet there!
