There's an interesting Telephony Online article by the decidedly forward thinking Carol Wilson entitled Economic Crisis Fueling Open Network Interest. Based on a report and interview by Paul Budde it lays out the case for Trans-Sector thinking and the economic value thereof.
I'll let you read the article. In essence, I share Budde's vision, although I think the implementation, even with open access on the table, will be more complex and needs further exploration. This ties in with some of the more in-depth work I'm currently doing on trying to devise the wholesale model that can best allow for this multiplicity of parallel providers to coexist and the revenue flows that could be generated around these new fiber-rich services.
